Thick cast iron, from 6 to 8 mm on the 800 up to 20 to 25 mm on the Crucible. They're heavy, too. The 1200 weighs about 65 kg and the Crucible about 250 kg.

Which size should I get?
Lay a garden hose in a circle where the pit will go, as wide as the size you're looking at, then pull your chairs up around it. If it feels tight, go down a size. If it looks lost in the yard, go up one. Call 0410 264 126 if you're stuck between two.
Can I cook on it?
Yes. Lay a grill over the coals. The grill that fits depends on the size: 700 mm for the 800, 900 mm for the 1000, 1100 mm for the 1200 and a 1400 mm half grill for the 1500. Tick one on the Cauldron's product page. For the Crucible, call 0410 264 126.
Does cast iron rust?
Yes. Raw cast iron arrives grey and rusts over a few months to the rust-brown you see in these photos. That's the look. Never throw cold water on it while it's hot or even warm, because the sudden change in temperature can crack cast iron. If you'd rather have a polished finish, have a look at the stainless range.
