Unique Fire Pits started with the BBQ / Fire Pit: charcoal cooking and a fire to sit around, in one. The first 50 went to a few trade shows, then into full production.

FAQ

Cooking on It: Your Questions

What do I burn to cook on it?

Wood works: cook over the hot coals and embers once the flames die down. For a longer cook, heat beads or charcoal hold their heat better. Line the bottom of the bowl with them, stack kindling on top and light the kindling. Let it burn for a good 45 minutes. When the timber has burnt out, the beads underneath are ready to cook on.

Can I use a pan, a wok or a camp oven?

Yes. A pan or a wok sits on the grill. Or leave the grill off and put a camp oven in the bowl for a stew or a damper.

Can I leave the grill on when it's a fire pit?

No. The grill is made for cooking. Take it off before you build the fire up, because the heat of a big fire can warp or bend it.

How do I clean it?

Wait until it's cold, usually the morning after. On the BBQ / Fire Pit, put a bucket under the centre, take out the inner screen and sweep the ash through the hole into the bucket. On a cast iron bowl like the Tripod's, let the fire burn out and scoop the ashes out once it's cold. Never throw cold water on cast iron while it's hot or even warm: it can crack.

What about the grease?

Leave it. Don't degrease the inside of the bowl. The fats from cooking help protect it.

Will it rust?

The BBQ / Fire Pit has a heat-proof primer and a black powder coat to protect it from the weather. Keep it dry, or covered when you're not using it, and we sell covers. A spray of cooking oil all over helps too, and a touch-up with black stove paint from a spray can brings it back to looking new. Cast iron starts grey and oxidises to a rustic colour over a few months. Stainless steel is corrosion resistant, which is why it suits coastal areas.

Does the spit motor come with it?

No. On the BBQ / Fire Pit, the spit option is $50 on the product page. It adds a sleeve and two steel poles that hold a spit motor. The motor and spit kit aren't included, so use one you already have or buy a kit separately.

Is it hard to put together?

No. The BBQ / Fire Pit goes together in minutes. Screw the legs on with the supplied spanner, put the handle on the grill and attach the drip pan.

Which size BBQ / Fire Pit should I get?

Go by the grill and your space. The 600 has a 500 mm grill that sits 500 mm off the ground. The 900 has a 700 mm grill and the 1200 a 900 mm grill, both 700 mm off the ground. The size in the name is measured across the outer rim, so measure your spot. Picking it up? The 900 fits in most sedans. The 1200 needs a big 4WD or a ute.

Which grill or hot plate fits my fire pit?

Each fire pit's product page offers the sizes that suit it. 700 mm grills go with the Cauldron 800, Basin 720 and 820, Goblet, Chalice, Tripod and Teppanyaki. 900 mm grills go with the Cauldron 1000 and Basin 1000, and the stainless 900 mm with the Goblet too. 1100 mm grills go with the Cauldron 1200, Basin 1200 and Shallow Cauldron 1200. The 1400 mm half grill goes with the Cauldron 1500. The 850 mm hot plate suits the Cauldron 800, Basin 720 and 820, Goblet and Tripod, and the 1050 mm suits the Cauldron 1000 and Basin 1000. How much is freight, and can I pick it up?

It depends on your postcode and what you order, so it's calculated at checkout, before you pay. You'll see the options there: home delivery (including leave-safe), or collect from your nearest depot, which is cheaper. Remote areas can cost more. You can also pick up from Ryde or Seven Hills by arrangement: call 0410 264 126.

Can I pay it off?

Payment plans are by arrangement: call 0410 264 126. At checkout you can pay by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or Shop Pay.

How do I protect the Teppanyaki's metal top plate from rust?

Olive oil. Run plenty into the metal top plate straight after cleaning it. That seals it and protects it from the weather. The plate is acid washed before it's sent out, so light surface rust can show by the time it arrives: clean that back first, then oil it. Call 0410 264 126 and we'll talk you through it.
